The Real Downton Abbey:  Domestic Service Before the Great War

On Thursday 8th July 2021 we are pleased to welcome Ian Porter to talk to us about what domestic service was really like for our ancestors.  The TV series paints a rosy picture of the life of a servant but this was not always the case.  Ian originates from London.  He is a historian, public speaker, writer of historical books and leader of guided walks around London, one of his interests being Jack the Ripper.  This promises to be a very interesting and informative talk.  I do hope that you will be able to join us.

If you have joined in with the previous two meetings then you will automatically be sent an invitation to this talk.  However, if you are new to these talks then please contact our Vice-Chair Glenys Bettley at This email address is being protected from spambots.
