1914-1918 Those who Served from Westbury and nearby Villages

Four years ago, when the nation started to look at ways to commemorate the WW1 centenary, the Westbury branch of the Wiltshire Family History Society undertook a project to find the names of the men and women from Westbury and the surrounding villages who joined up and served in WW1. Much is made of those who lost their lives in the conflict, with war memorials in villages, towns and cities around the country, but little is known those who joined up and returned.
Westbury Family History wanted to find out more about those men and women and pay tribute to them. For the last four years they have been researching who they were, where they lived and worked, their families and their lives after they returned. To date they have found approx. 650 names; and so a Roll of Honour is being prepared.
All this information will come together in an exhibition to be held in All Saints Church from the 11th November until the 17th November, 10 am – 4 pm.  It will also include the photographs and information the group found on Heywood House while it was in use as a Voluntary Aid Hospital. Please come and pay tribute to those who served and also see the display of over 3000 poppies knitted and crocheted by the community.
